29 persons face obstruction of justice and rioting charges in Gyumri

29 people have been indicted for obstruction of justice and rioting in Gyumri on October 20, when investigators entered City Hall to detain Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan on suspicion of bribery.

The Investigative Committee said in a statement that the 29 individuals gathered at City Hall in an attempt to block the building, damage police vehicles and municipal property, and obstruct the arrest of the mayor and other detainees.

A total of 37 people were arrested during the investigation into the riot, but only 29 have been indicted.

On October 20, Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan and other Gyumri City Hall staffers were arrested as part of a corruption-related investigation. The mayor is currently in pre-trial detention and denies any wrongdoing.
