The Minister of Labor and Social Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, Arsen Torosyan, received the Head of the Council of Europe Office in Yerevan, Maxime Longangué, the ministry has said.
During the meeting, the sides discussed ongoing programs, achievements and future directions of cooperation between Armenia and the Council of Europe in the areas of support for forcibly displaced persons, social assistance, gender equality, and the protection of children's rights.
They also discussed the "Enhancing Social Human Rights in Armenia" program, which aims to assist the Armenian authorities in strengthening the protection of social rights and ensuring crisis response in line with international standards.
Special attention was paid to improving social housing policy, introducing new support mechanisms for vulnerable groups, and continuing collaboration in these areas.
Regarding gender equality and the protection of women’s rights, the sides touched upon the implementation of a rehabilitation program for perpetrators of domestic and family violence, the training of specialists, and initiatives for international experience exchange.
In the field of child protection, the current joint programs were discussed, particularly the process of introducing a new system for the protection of children's rights and possible avenues for the Council of Europe’s support in this area.
Maxime Longangué praised the effective cooperation between Armenia and the Council of Europe, noting that Armenia is regarded as an exemplary partner not only in the South Caucasus region but also across Europe.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Minister Torosyan and Longangué expressed their readiness to continue close cooperation aimed at developing the social protection system, safeguarding the rights of vulnerable groups, and promoting policies consistent with international standards.
