Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has condemned the armed attack outside Yerevan that left the Mayor of Parakar and another individual dead.

In a statement on social media, Pashinyan denounced the violence and called on law enforcement agencies to identify everyone behind the “brazen armed attack.”

“I strongly condemn the brazen armed attack that took place in the Merdzavan community of the Parakar municipality, which resulted in the deaths of Mayor V. Grigoryan and his friend. Another wounded individual is in critical condition. I express my condolences to the families of those killed and to the dear people of Parakar. I wish a speedy recovery to the wounded person.
Law enforcement agencies in Armenia must swiftly identify all those involved in the crime.
A detailed study must also be conducted into what preventative measures should have been taken in Parakar to prevent this series of violent incidents—who was responsible for carrying them out, and why they failed to do so. Necessary conclusions will be drawn from this investigation,” Pashinyan said.

Grigoryan and another person were shot dead shortly before midnight on Tuesday.
Police have not yet named any suspects.

Police later said the second person killed was an off-duty police officer.
