Ambassador Mkrtchyan praises signing of six Armenia–Greece agreements as unprecedented progress

Armenian Ambassador to Greece Tigran Mkrtchyan has described the recent signing of six agreements between Armenia and Greece in the fields of culture, science, and education as an unprecedented advancement in bilateral relations.

In a post on Facebook, Ambassador Mkrtchyan highlighted that five of the documents were signed during the official visit of Armenia’s Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, Zhanna Andreasyan, to Athens from July 21 to 23, at the invitation of Greece’s Minister of Culture, Lina Mendoni.

The signed documents include:

  • An agreement between the governments of Armenia and Greece on the prevention of theft, illegal excavations, and the illegal import, export, and transfer of ownership of cultural property, as well as their restitution to their country of origin.
  • A Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Culture between the Armenian Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports and the Greek Ministry of Culture.
  • A Memorandum of Cooperation between the Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra and the Thessaloniki Concert Hall.
  • A Memorandum of Cooperation between Creative Greece, the Greek Cinema and Audiovisual Center, and the Armenian Cinema Foundation.
  • A cooperation program between the Armenian Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports and the Greek Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports for 2025–2029 in the fields of education and science.

In addition, on July 10, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed remotely between the Institute of Oriental Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia and the Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences of Greece.

Ambassador Mkrtchyan emphasized that the conclusion of these six agreements marks significant progress in the cultural, scientific, and educational ties between the two nations, calling it “unprecedented progress in the relations between our two culturally rich friendly countries.”
