Symposium of ICTMD Study Group on Music and Minorities to be held in Armenia for first time

For the first time, Armenia will host the international symposium of the “Music and Minorities” Study Group of the International Council for Traditions of Music and Dance (ICTMD).

ICTMD is a leading international organization in the field of ethnomusicology, headquartered in the United States, whose activities cover more than 120 countries worldwide.

The National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia will host the 13th International Symposium of the ICTMD Study Group on Music and Minorities on September 7 of this year at 10:00 am (24 Marshal Baghramyan Avenue, 2nd floor, conference hall). The symposium will continue its work at the Komitas State Conservatory of Yerevan and will run until September 12.

The symposium will put science at the service of humanity and national interests by raising issues of human rights, the protection of cultural identity and historical justice through music. Issues related to the preservation of the musical traditions of ethnic, cultural and linguistic minorities will be discussed.

According to a press release from the National Academy of Sciences, around 90 distinguished scholars and young researchers from 33 countries will participate in the symposium, including the United States, Australia, Austria, Germany, Türkiye, Italy, Iran, Poland, Croatia, Canada, Armenia, India, Greece, Japan, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, the Czech Republic, China, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Georgia and Finland, representing around 65 leading universities and research institutions.

The symposium is organized by ICTMD, the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia and the Institute of Arts, in cooperation with the Komitas State Conservatory of Yerevan and the Kayt Cultural Hub.

The symposium is organized with the support of the Higher Education and Science Committee of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia.
