The Armenian-Chinese Seismograph and GNSS Network center has been inaugurated at the A. Nazarov Institute of Geophysics and Engineering Seismology in Gyumri, Armenia.
The center for monitoring seismic-geodynamics, collecting and processing data will enhance cooperation between the two countries in seismic monitoring and risk assessment.
Chinese experts have conducted field studies and selected the best location for the seismic-geodynamic stations.

“Such complex stations are one-of-a-kind in the region,” said Director of the Institute Jon Karapetyan. He said the stations are capable of recording earthquakes on a range of up to 15,000 kilometers. “For the first time, an early warning system is used, which enables to obtain data about earthquakes within a matter of seconds,” he said.

Chinese Ambassador to Armenia Li Xinwei attended the inauguration of the facility.
He said the project will enable Armenia to have a leading position in the region with such technologies.
