Deputy Foreign Minister meets OPCW Director-General

Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Armenia Robert Abisoghomonyan on Wednesday met with Director-General of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), Fernando Arias, in The Hague, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said in a press release.

During the meeting, they discussed issues related to cooperation between Armenia and the OPCW. The Deputy Foreign Minister reaffirmed Armenia's commitment to the implementation of the goals of the Chemical Weapons Convention and emphasized the importance of continued cooperation. He also presented the ongoing legislative reforms in Armenia in this area.

According to the source, the meeting highlighted the importance of a constructive and cooperative approach by OPCW member states to disarmament and non-proliferation amid the current security challenges.

The parties also exchanged views on the challenges posed by rapidly developing innovative technologies, particularly artificial intelligence. In this context, the Deputy Foreign Minister stressed the need to develop appropriate international regulations.
