Armenia’s Emin Ohanyan wins bronze at European U20 Chess Championship

Grandmaster Emin Ohanyan has won the bronze medal at the European Junior U20 Chess Championship held in Cetinje, Montenegro.

The Armenian chess player scored 6.5 points out of a possible 9 and shared 2nd-5th places, finishing third on tiebreaks.

Overall, four representatives of Armenia finished in the top 10. International Masters Alex Sahakyan, Vahe Sukiasyan and FIDE Master Rudolf Pashikyan each scored 6 points, finishing 6th, 7th and 8th, respectively. Pashikyan also earned his second International Master (IM) norm at the championship.

International Master Robert Piliposyan, FIDE Master Manvel Arakelyan and International Master Arsen Davtyan scored 5.5 points each. FIDE Master Edgar Andreasyan scored 4.5 points, while Candidate Master Aleksandr Avanesyan scored 3.5 points.

In the girls’ championship, Woman FIDE Master Nvard Hayrapetyan scored 5.5 points and shared 9th-11th places, finishing 11th on tiebreaks. Woman FIDE Master Polina Kobak and Angelina Mirakyan scored 5 points each, while Emma Mkhitaryan scored 3 points.

Angelina Mirakyan (+125.2 points) and Nvard Hayrapetyan (+92.8 points) significantly improved their ratings during the championship.
