Prosecutor-General concerned over juvenile violence

Prosecutor-General Anna Vardapetyan has expressed concern regarding violent crimes, especially juvenile violence.

Vardapetyan delivered the prosecution’s 2024 report to lawmakers at a committee session on Friday.

“Very often physical violence resulting in bodily injuries is a result of verbal aggression. And preventing that verbal aggression isn’t only the law enforcement agencies’ work,” she said.

She mentioned youth violence, claiming that very often simple everyday disputes among young people escalate into stabbings or other incidents involving bodily injuries. “We see numerous situations when minors argue with each other over everyday issues, then stab each other, inflict grave bodily injuries, whereas their parents later deal with each other,” Vardapetyan warned.

She said the general prosecution is working with municipal police to prevent such situations, as well as with the criminal police to resolve open cases.
