Members of European Parliament commemorate Armenian Genocide victims

A group of Members of the European Parliament have commemorated the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, making posts on their social media platforms.

MEP Nathalie Loiseau, in a post on X, noted that commemorating the Genocide committed against the Armenian people is a way to pay tribute to the victims, not to forget them and to ensure the Armenian people’s commitment to living in peace and security.

MEP Jordan Bardella, in particular, wrote: “Today we commemorate the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. A tribute to the victims of the massacres and forced deportations carried out by Turkey. Today, the conquest of Islamism continues to threaten the continued presence of Armenians on their land. France and Europe must not abandon Armenia and the Armenians – a democratic, Christian and European country, and a fraternal and friendly people.”

MEP Laurent Castillo, in turn, recalled that today, on the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, the world pays tribute and commemorates the 1.5 million Armenians who were martyred as a result of the genocide.

"After 110 years, Azerbaijan and Turkey pose an existential threat to Armenia. France and Europe must stand by the Armenians," the MEP stressed.

French MEP Nicolas Bay wrote that his thoughts are with the Armenian people, who continue to fight for their survival. "Armenia, which I love very much, can count on our solidarity and our friendship," Bay wrote.

MEP Reinhold Lopatka has also made a post on X, publishing a photo with Tigran Balayan, the Armenian Ambassador to Belgium and Armenian Representative to the EU.

The Austrian MEP noted in his post that 110 years ago, 1.5 million people lost their lives because of their Armenian identity.

"Austria recognized the Armenian Genocide in 2015. And yet, we still see attempts at denial and distortion of historical facts.

Remembering these atrocities is not only about honouring the victims, but also about reaffirming our commitment to justice and truth.''

“In my latest speech at the European Parliament I spoke about the Armenian Genocide and the importance of working for peace, reconciliation, and a future where such crimes will never happen again,” the MEP posted.

MEP Nils Ušakovs, commemorating the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, noted that it is necessary to normalize relations between Armenia and Turkey.

“On 24 April, we commemorate the victims of the Armenian Genocide which started 110 years ago. Remembering and learning from the past, politicians have a duty to work for a better future. Time for Armenia–Türkiye normalisation to proceed,” he posted, sharing a photo of a stamp he took in 2015 at the Armenian Genocide Museum.

“This stamp serves as a historical testament to the solidarity shown by the people of Riga, who gathered aid for the victims of the genocide 110 years ago. I took this photograph in 2015 at the Armenian Genocide Museum in Yerevan.”

The Member of the European Parliament Maria Zacharia stated that the Armenian Genocide of 1915 is one of the darkest pages of world history.

“Recognition, memory and truth are the only path to justice and reconciliation. We do not forget the past, not out of hatred, but out of respect for those who lost their lives. Also out of responsibility, so that such crimes are never repeated. Memory is an act of resistance and humanity,” Zacharia stated in her message.
