Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, at a joint press conference with his Iranian counterpart, Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, praised the progress made between Yerevan and Tehran across nearly all areas, expressing confidence that the deepening of bilateral relations would continue.
Mirzoyan noted with satisfaction that the relationship between Yerevan and Tehran continues to develop steadily, which remains one of the priorities of Armenia's regional policy.
He emphasized that the dynamic development of Armenian-Iranian relations is evident not only in the stable cooperation between foreign ministries but also in all other sectors.
"The extensive agenda of relations with Iran covers nearly every sphere: political, economic, transport, energy, education, science, and culture. I can confidently state that we have made progress in all of these areas," said Minister Mirzoyan, expressing optimism for the further deepening of bilateral cooperation.
Mirzoyan highlighted that during his discussions with the Iranian Foreign Minister, the importance of their existing economic cooperation was underscored, with tangible successes, particularly in recent years.
“In 2024, we saw the volume of our bilateral trade turnover exceed the level of the past five years, which is a significant achievement,” Mirzoyan noted, adding that the possibility of increasing the bilateral trade turnover to 3 billion USD was also discussed.
According to the Armenian Foreign Minister, opportunities for further expanding bilateral trade have been bolstered by the signing of a free trade agreement between the Eurasian Economic Union and Iran.
“I should also note that Iran is actively participating in the implementation of Armenia’s economic and infrastructure programs, which hold both economic and strategic significance,” Mirzoyan added.
"The 32-kilometer section of the Kajaran-Agarak road, the construction of which the Armenian side entrusted to an Iranian company, is a key component of the Crossroads of Peace project. Thus, we can state that Iran was not only one of the first countries to welcome our Crossroads of Peace initiative but is also practically involved in its implementation," Mirzoyan emphasized.
