Probability of new Azeri attack not high, says Armenia’s spy chief

The Director of the Armenian Foreign Intelligence Service Kristinne Grigoryan said Friday that currently there are no grounds to assess the likelihood of a new Azeri attack as high.

Asked by reporters whether there is a risk of an Azerbaijani attack on Armenia, Grigoryan said, “At this moment the combination of the facts and signals required to assess the probability of an attack as high is absent, however the situation changes quickly, and we are following the situation.”

On March 13, Armenia and Azerbaijan announced that the negotiations around the peace treaty terms have been successfully concluded. Days later, the Azerbaijani government started a massive disinformation campaign falsely accusing Armenia of firing at its military positions across the border. The accusations have been numerously denied by the Armenian military. Furthermore, the Azerbaijani authorities refused to provide any evidence in support of their accusations. The report on border shootings was also denied by the EU monitoring mission in Armenia.  The disinformation campaign prompted many analysts and experts to state that Azerbaijan could be preparing to attack Armenia.
