The Armenian Urban Development Committee, the Asian Development Bank and the South Korean Ministry of Economy and Finance signed a memorandum of understanding on March 6 in Yerevan, launching the Armenia Green Urbanization, Advancing Energy Efficiency in Building project.
The program’s goal is the development of green urban development in Armenia.
Under the agreement South Korea will provide around 300,000 USD support to improve energy efficiency in construction and buildings, First Deputy Chairman of the Urban Development Committee Davit Grigoryan said, highlighting the importance of the project.
The program will feature comprehensive studies to determine the directions of further improvement and modernization.
South Korean experts will study the green urbanization work, problems in energy efficiency in buildings, and present proposals for solutions.
The expert team leader, Sangmyung University Professor S. Lee highlighted the important exchange of experience, where Armenia will obtain the huge South Korean experience in the sector and examples of successful projects.
Don Lambert, the Country Director for ADB's Armenia Resident Mission, said that the program is important for two reasons. “First, raising energy efficiency is important for Armenia. We know that there’s a lot of emissions in construction, and the ADB attaches importance to programs aimed at increasing energy efficiency, and second, this is a rather new dimension and area, and for us the exchange of experience and cooperation between Korea and the ADB is very important,” he said.
