Construction grew 20% last year, according to Urban Development Committee chief Yeghiazar Vardanyan.
Speaking at a press conference, Vardanyan said that construction remains one of the leading sectors of the Armenian economy.
He spoke about his agency’s activities in 2025.
According to him, the first area of activity for the Urban Development Committee last year was the development and updating of urban planning standards, because the entire sector is regulated by these standards, making this direction a key priority for the committee. The second priority was the regulation, clarification, and streamlining of urban planning processes, which is of great importance as it affects almost all citizens.
The third priority is the licensing, accreditation, and monitoring of organizations engaged in urban development activities, especially since many outcomes depend on the proper performance of the organizations involved in the sector.
The fourth priority is the management of the housing stock and related development programs.
The fifth priority is the implementation of capital construction projects.
“Construction continues to remain one of the leading sectors of Armenia’s economy, maintaining its growth momentum. Accordingly, compared to 2024, a 20 percent increase has been recorded for the same 11-month period. Construction works amounting to about 645 billion drams have been carried out. In addition to the private sector, state construction client agencies have also developed their capacities. They are now ready to service, with their own resources, the large-scale capital construction projects being implemented in Armenia today,” Vardanyan said.
He added that during 2025, the Urban Development Committee coordinated 101 construction projects and about 70 development programs, which included schools, kindergartens, medical centers, cultural institutions, sports halls, and residential buildings, as well as the design work for the construction of the next 300 schools.
“When a new phase of capital construction begins, we will already have a new package of ready-made projects. This process will be continuous,” said the Chairman of the Urban Development Committee of Armenia.
