Tomoko Akane and Grigor Minasyan discussed the possibility of expanding cooperation

YEREVAN, JULY 2, ARMENPRESS. The Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Grigor Minasyan met with the President of the International Criminal Court Tomoko Akane in the Kingdom of the Netherlands (The Hague).

According the message from the Armenian Ministry of Justice, Grigor Minasyan recalled that on October 3, 2023, Armenia ratified the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, which entered into force on February 1, 2024.

 By ratifying the Statute, Armenia reaffirmed its commitment to combating impunity for the most serious crimes that threaten peace and security throughout the world. Thus, Armenia recognized the ICC jurisdiction retroactively, committing to bring its national legislation into line with the principles of the Rome Statute.

Grigor Minasyan reaffirmed Armenia's commitment to ensuring the continuous approximation of the national legal framework for the implementation of the Rome Statute, while expressing its readiness to develop the capabilities of relevant law enforcement agencies in the context of the effective implementation of the post-validation process of the Rome Statute.

 In conclusion, Grigor Minasyan expressed gratitude to the International Criminal Court for the opportunity to strengthen cooperation. International Criminal Court President Tomoko Akane congratulated Armenia on joining the ICC and expressed her readiness to support Armenia in the post-validation process of the Rome Statute and in other areas of cooperation.
