Armenian courts hand down four high treason verdicts in 2025-2026

In 2025-2026, Armenian courts have handed down four verdicts under Part 1 of Article 418 of the Criminal Code for committing the crime of high treason.

According to a press release from the Prosecutor General’s Office, the cases are as follows:

On December 23, 2025, by a verdict handed down by the Criminal Court of General Jurisdiction of Gegharkunik Province of First Instance, a person was found guilty under Part 1 of Article 418 of the Criminal Code and sentenced to 15 years in prison, as well as an additional punishment of deprivation of military rank.

On March 3, 2026, by a verdict handed down by the Criminal Court of General Jurisdiction of Gegharkunik Province of First Instance, a person was found guilty under Part 1 of Article 418 of the Criminal Code and sentenced to 15 years in prison.

On March 10, 2026, by a verdict handed down by the Criminal Court of General Jurisdiction of Syunik Province of First Instance, a person was found guilty under Part 1 of Article 418 of the Criminal Code and sentenced to 15 years in prison.

On June 26, 2026, by a verdict handed down by the Criminal Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan City of First Instance, a person was found guilty under Part 1 of Article 418 of the Criminal Code and sentenced to 16 years in prison, as well as confiscation of property worth more than USD 20,000.

Thus, during the mentioned period, the courts sentenced the four persons found guilty of high treason to 15-16 years in prison. In one case, deprivation of military rank was imposed, while in another case, property confiscation was ordered.
