YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 5, ARMENPRESS:U.S. ambassador to Armenia Marie Yovanovitch said today that by the victory
of Barack Obama in presidential elections in USA, the country’s foreign
policy and the approaches adopted towards Armenia will be continuative.
“In the foreign policy issue of the country there are more similarities in
the approaches of republicans and democrats, then differences. Both
democrats and republicans support and assist the development of democracy
in Armenia, economic reforms. Representatives of the two forces support the
regulation of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict within the frameworks of the
OSCE Minsk Group. The two forces also support the reconciliation between
Armenia and Turkey so that borders open, diplomatic relations be
established, people have opportunity of everyday contacts,” M. Yovanovitch
said.
In connection with the change of U.S. policy in Armenian genocide issue,
the ambassador said that it is necessary to wait and see what the new
president and his team will do.
The new president will assume his office in January.
“We are pleased with Armenian-American relations, currently they are on a
high institutional level. We hope that together with new administration we
will try to strengthen, develop relations,” Armenian deputy foreign
minister Arman Kirakosian said.
