Number of measles vaccinations increases – NCDC

YEREVAN, AUGUST 21, ARMENPRESS. 547 cases of measles were recorded in Armenia so far in 2024, the head of the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has said.

NCDC General Director Stepan Atoyan told reporters that although the number of new cases is growing, the number of unvaccinated persons has dropped 1,8% compared to last year.

“Compared to last year we have a little increase this year. Last year we recorded 554 cases throughout the whole year, whereas now, as of August 20, we already have 547 cases,” he said.

He said health authorities are making efforts to increase vaccination rates. Atoyan said the most effective way to fight measles is to get the vaccine in time.

“As a result of our work we have around 1,8% decrease in the number of unvaccinated people, in other words more people are getting vaccinated. The number of half-vaccinated people dropped 2,9 times.”

Atoyan said infectious diseases surge every four to seven years.
