4,300 citizenship applications received from forcibly displaced persons of Nagorno-Karabakh, 3,000 granted so far

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 3, ARMENPRESS. Over 4,300 forcibly displaced persons from Nagorno-Karabakh have applied for citizenship of Armenia, and so far around 3,000 of them were granted citizenship, according to a senior official.

“As of the 30th of [August], we had over 4,300 applications from forcibly displaced persons of Nagorno-Karabakh,” Armen Ghazaryan, Head of the Migration and Citizenship Service told lawmakers at a committee hearing. “Around 3000 people have already been granted Armenian citizenship by a presidential decree. A very important circumstance must be taken into account here, minors do not apply for citizenship, because the minors become citizens of Armenia with a change of passport after their parents receive citizenship,” Ghazaryan said.

A facilitated procedure is in place for the forcibly displaced persons of Nagorno-Karabakh.
