‘Weaker’ coronavirus variant circulating in Armenia, says NCDC

YEREVAN, AUGUST 21, ARMENPRESS. The number of new cases of coronavirus has increased compared to the same period of 2023, however the circulating Omicron JN1 variant is weaker in terms of severity and transmission rate, according to the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC).

NCDC General Director Stepan Atoyan told reporters that 229 cases of coronavirus were recorded in the last 14 days in Armenia, which is 7 cases more compared to last year’s same period. “And in the last 7 days we recorded 113 cases, which is again a bit more compared to the previous year,” Atoyan said.

He said the Omicron JN1 variant is now circulating in Armenia.
