NATO considers extra assistance to Georgia’s marine capacity in Black Sea

YEREVAN, MARCH 25, ARMENPRESS. NATO and Georgia are discussing possibilities for enhancing cooperation regarding the situation in the Black Sea, Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on March 25 in Tbilisi.

Stoltenberg is in Georgia on the occasion of the joint military exercises between the organization and the Caucasian country.

“We are currently thinking what else we can do in the Georgian marine capability sector,” Stoltenberg said after meeting PM Mamuka Bakhtadze.

He also spoke about “the significant strengthening of Russia’s presence” in the Black Sea region.

“We are providing training to Georgian coast guard, and during today’s meeting we discussed what else we can do to enhance our cooperation,” Stoltenberg said.

The NATO chief said Georgia has achieved great success in the integration path and that the country will definitely eventually become a member of NATO.

However, he did not mention any timeframes.
