Introducing chess in Armenia’s public schools helps children, says President Sargsyan

YEREVAN, MARCH 15, ARMENPRESS. It’s already few years since chess has been introduced in Armenia’s public education system as a mandatory subject, which helps the youth, President of Armenia and President of Armenia’s Chess Federation Serzh Sargsyan said at Moscow’s State Institute of International Relations, in response to a student’s question, ARMENPRESS correspondent reported.

“Once I was asked how chess differs from other sports, I couldn’t think of anything better than the fact that there is more fairness in chess. Chess teaches to wins fairly and loose fairly, since the referee almost doesn’t play any role. In other sports, for example in football, the referee can set an ungrounded penalty kick, whereas there is no such thing in chess. And winning fairly and loosing fairly isn’t only in sports, it’s the same in politics, generally in life”, he said.

“Today young people become world chess champions, who simply play wonderful.’’ Chess itself is moving towards the people, towards schools, educational facilities and others’’, he said.
