YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 7, ARMENPRESS. The “Human Rights and Healthcare” international conference kicked off in Armenia.
Lawyers, doctors, future experts of healthcare and healthcare right, representatives of private and public sectors of healthcare have gathered within the frameworks of the three-day conference, which is held for the first time in Armenia. Participants of the conference will evaluate the current issues of the field, the present situation of human rights, trends of legislative development.
Justice Minister Arpine Hovhannisyan delivered opening remarks at the conference, underscoring the right to healthcare is one of the priority human rights.
“Speaking about healthcare, it is difficult to find anyone in Armenia and in the world, who wouldn’t comprehend the central role of healthcare right in the life of the citizens. It’s no coincidence, that this right is considered to be one of the fundamental components of human rights and the right to dignified life. It’s no coincidence, that there are rights for the sake of which states unite their efforts. And inking of these rights in international legal documents and the continuous reflection speaks to the fact that this right has a central position, one can say all other right are either connected or subordinate to this right”, the minister said.
Deputy Minister of Healthcare Sergey Khachatryan said there are numerous problems in the sector, and much needs to be done.
“Compared to these years we have moved from behavioral approaches to legislative regulations of approaches. We are continuously making changes in the laws which regulate the healthcare sector, because problems arise, which have direct impact, most of the time negative impact, and the ministry takes corresponding actions to mitigate this impact. Patient-doctor, patient-family member, patient-state – several difficult relations, the regulation of which is associated with the effectiveness, which we are discussing today. Of course we understand there are numerous gaps, which we have to solve”, the deputy minister said.
Representatives from Georgia, Ukraine, Lithuania, Kirgizstan, Kazakhstan, Russia and Macedonia are taking part in the conference.
