YEREVAN, OCTOBER 20, ARMENPRESS. In order to remain competitive in the media field, it is necessary to comprehensively understand the future and in this context to strengthen capabilities for withstanding the arising challenges. The current modern media is no longer just a humanitarian branch and the technological development process is greatly impacting its activity, Director of ARMENPRESS state news agency Mr. Aram Ananyan said in his report “The Future of Media: Modern media trends in terms of forming a single pan-Armenian information network”, during the 8th Pan-Armenian Forum of Journalists entitled “Armenian Statehood: Core of Unity”.

“We see affordable technologies worldwide, but along with this the fight for an interesting content must be tougher. The increase of volume of accessible information doesn’t mean increase of information consumption”, Mr. Ananyan said, adding that journalists are in the future with one foot, and in the present and past with another.

As the largest and widest Armenian agency with international scope, ARMENPRESS is engaged in discussions with its partners regarding issues of the future, in order to understand where the industry will be in 15-20 years.

“We need to see what will happen in the nearest future, what challenges we will face tomorrow. We can’t respond to tomorrow’s challenges with yesterday’s tools”, Mr. Ananyan added.

Director Aram Ananyan says the relations of media, state and business are transforming worldwide in a global context, when very often brutal propaganda is carried out under free press and provisions are pushed forward which don’t have anything to do with information and journalism.

“The rapid growth of number of media doesn’t bring quality. You can’t find journalists from the street. Journalists must be qualified professionals”, Mr. Ananyan said, mentioning that there is huge progress in copyright/reputation protection by professional media, and added that this fact is joyous.

“As head of a state agency, I am open for all kinds of cooperation with all our partners”, Director of ARMENPRESS Mr. Aram Ananyan said, wishing efficient work to the participants of the forum.

The 8th Pan-Armenian forum of Journalists kicked off on October 20 in Yerevan. The forum will be held until October 22, when the participants will depart for Nagorno Karabakh to continue the works.
