YEREVAN, JULY 28, ARMENPRESS. The 1st government session on fighting against corruption headed by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Hovik Abrahamyan took place on July 28.

As “Armenpress” was informed from the Information and Public Relations Department of the Government Staff of the Republic of Armenia, opening the session the PM mentioned, “Fighting against corruption is one of the most important internal priorities of the Government. And one of the main guarantees of the fight against corruption is the institutional system ensuring productive anti-corruption polices. For that reason the anti-corruption Council was created by the N165 decision of February 19 by the Government. The Council is responsible for the coordination of anti-corruption reforms and supervision over them. I want to highlight once again the importance of participation and cooperation of all interested sides in the process of anti-corruption fight.

We have will and confidence and are ready to move forward step by step by daily work. Our work will be transparent and we will do our best to make them visible for the public. Though some of our colleagues refused to take part in the works of the Council we invited them to be present at today’s session. I hope that both the opposition factions of the National Assembly and the NGOs who refused to be engaged in the activities of the Council as members of the Council, will cooperate with the Council and will invest their knowledge and professional skills in the joint anti-corruption fight. It is possible to come to unified viewpoints, approaches and move forward only in this way”.

Minister - Chief of RA Government Staff Davit Harutyunyan introduced details about signing the agreement of cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Armenia and theUnited States Agency for International Development (USAID). He mentioned that the USAID expressed readiness to support the Government of Armenia to bring the anti-corruption strategy into life. The total cost of the strategy is estimated at 750 thousand USD. The Government of Armenia will subsidize up to 25% of the strategy.
