Event dedicated to Armenian Genocide centennial held in Saint Petersburg

YEREVAN, MARCH 25, ARMENPRESS. On March 21, commemorative event, dedicated to the memory of the Armenian intelligentsia, massacred during the Armenian Genocide, was held at the State Russian Museum (Stroganov Palace), St. Petersburg. The event was organized by “The Armenians of St. Petersburg” NGO and General Consulate of Armenia in Saint Petersburg, in cooperation with State Russian Museum.

The Press, Information, and Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia informed “Armenpress” that Consul General of the Republic of Armenia to Saint Petersburg Hrayr Karapetyan, Chairman of the “The Armenians of St. Petersburg” Alexander Nazarov, politicians, public figures, diplomats, journalists and Armenians of Petersburg participated in the event.

In his welcoming remarks, Alexander Nazarov reflected on the biography and works of the Armenian intelligentsia, massacred during the Armenian Genocide – Daniel Varuzhan, Ruben Sevak, Grigor Zohrab, Siamanto and others.

In his message, Consul General of the Republic of Armenia in Saint Petersburg Hrayr Karapetyan presented scheduled events dedicated to the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide, touching upon their essence and content.

Antoine Arakelyan, journalist and human rights activist well-known in Petersburg, briefed about consequences of the Armenian Genocide.

During the event, poems dedicated to Armenia by Sergey Gorodetsky, as well as passages from poems by Daniel Varuzhan, Ruben Sevak and Siamanto were read. Works by famed composers were performed.
