In his turn, expert of the Armenian Center for Political and International Studies Ruben Mehrabyanviewed the President’s speech as quite precautious, but a speech that was addressable. According to him, one of the major points in the address was that Serzh Sargsyan referred to Russia’s sale of weapons to Azerbaijan as an issue that requires a solution.
Political scientist Alexander Iskandaryancommented on Serzh Sargsyan’s address and said the following:“Russia is the one supplying weapons in the post-Soviet region, including to Armenia and Azerbaijan. Of course, his speech was addressed to Russia, and Russia knows this very well, but that component has been included in Armenian-Russian relations from time to time.”
President Serzh Sargsyan delivered an address at the Fifth International Media Forum “At the Foot of Mount Ararat” in which he touched upon the Armenian Genocide, the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the current situation in the Near East. When answering journalists’ questions, the President mentioned that what concerns Armenia in regard to the Armenian-Russian relations is the fact that Russia is selling weapons to Azerbaijan for different reasons.“The problem is not the quality of the ammunition, but the fact that the Armenian soldiers defending the border are aware of the fact that there is an attempt to kill them with Russian weapons,”Serzh Sargsyan mentioned.
