The production volume of Armenal JSC, which is the biggest manufacturer of aluminium foil in the region, for the period ranging from January to September of the current year increased by 4,7% in comparison with the same period of the previous year and has reached 20 464,7 tons. Rusal Armenal is a wholly owned subsidiary of Rusal which runs an aluminum foil mill in the Arabkir district of Yerevan, Armenia. The premises of the mill were formerly known as the Kanaker aluminum smelter, which was commissioned in 1950, and became one of the largest aluminum foil mills in the Soviet Union and Europe in the 1980s.
The Company produces plain and converted foil according to internationally recognized standards with thicknesses from 0.240 mm to 0.007 mm and width up to 1470 mm.
Between 2004-2006, RUSAL and the German company Achenbach modernized the facility, refurbishing it with new state-of-the-art equipment to cater for an entire production cycle, and ensure the highest quality ARMENAL products.
In 2009, ARMENAL started the batch production of aluminium foil with thickness of 7 to 9 micron. The facility plans to further master the production of thin foil, which has a strong global demand.
In 2010, the foil mill deployed a new machine for foil cutting and bifurcating and installed a new Seco/Warwick furnace. The new equipment helped to further improve the quality of ARMENAL products.
In 2011 the facility deployed a new power substation, which covers daily liquid metal needs of all three plant's rolling mills.
In 2013-2014 ARMENAL will carry out a programme aimed at boosting production through purchasing new and upgrading existing equipment.
