Diyarbakır Governor hosts Acting Armenian Patriarch of Constantinople

His Beatitude Archbishop Aram Ateshian expressed his gratitude to the Diyarbakır Governor Mustafa Cahit Kıraç for the reception. In turn, the Diyarbakır Governor Mustafa Cahit Kıraç stated that he is grateful for the meeting. At the end of the meeting the interlocutors were photographed.
Hundreds attended a church service held on September 10, at the St. Giragos Armenian Church in Diyarbakir.
Previously, Divine Liturgy was served at St. Cross Church in the Akhtamar Island in Van, during which five Armenians were baptized.
Acting Patriarch Aram Ateshyan conducted the church services, as St. Giragos does not yet have a priest.
The church service was also attended by Mayors Osman Baydemir and Abdullah Demirbas, the heads of the Diyarbakir Metropolitan Municipality and the Sour Municipality, respectively.
St. Giragos was restored and opened for worship in 2011 due to the efforts of a handful of Armenian supporters and the Diyarbakir municipal authorities.
