My opponent is strong, but not invincible: Vic Darchinyan

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 6, ARMENPRESS. Former undisputed world boxing champion Vic-Vakhtang Darchinyan will strive to gain victory in upcoming match against Nonito Donaire, which is set to be held on November 9 in the city of Corpus Christi in the United States. In a conversation with "Armenpress" the former world champion noted that he had a big desire to compete with Nonito Donaire and he had been looking forward to this chance for a long time. Vic Darchinyan suffered his first loss at the hands of Nonito Donaire in 2007. According to the Armenian athlete this is not merely about principal wish to rematch, but gaining new prospects in the ring due to the victory as well.

Among other things Vic Darchinyan underscored: "My opponent is strong, but not invincible. We both shall strive to gain victory and it will be a difficult fight. I am actively engaged in the trainings and I feel the support of the Armenian fans from the Republic of Armenia, Australia, and the United States every time I step the ring."

Vakhtang "Vic" Darchinyan was born 7 January 1976 in Vanadzor, Armenia. He is an Armenian professional boxer. He is a three-division world champion, having won eight titles in three different weight classes. He is a former IBF Flyweight Champion and a former Undisputed WBA, WBC & IBF Super Flyweight Champion. He has also captured a record of 4 IBO titles in three weight classes. He is a southpaw boxer who currently trains with Angelo Hyder. He was previously trained by former 3-division world champion, Jeff Fenech, in Sydney and briefly by Billy Hussein. Fenech and Darchinyan are the only Australian 3-division world champions in history.

On 16 December 2004, Vic Darchinyan became the first ethnic Armenian to capture a world title when he defeated the previously unbeaten and defending IBF Flyweight Champion, Irene Pacheco of Colombia, by eleventh round TKO.
