Democracy Starts with You program aimed to develop democracy in South Caucasus

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 5, ARMENPRESS. The solemn ceremony of opening the third session of the EU South Caucasus Youth Parliament was held in Tsaghkadzor on February 5. It is organized within the framework of the program "Democracy Starts with You" supported by the EU. As reports "Armenpress" the Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia Armen Ashotyan stated that due to this project the young generation of South Caucasus will have an opportunity to get acquainted with democracy not throw the text-books alone, but via personal experience and participation as well.

In his address to the participants of the program Armen Ashotyan highlighted: "You give start not to democracy alone, but also to patriotism. One may put equality sign between patriotism and democracy in XXI century, because nobody can build strong state without democracy."

The Head of the European Union Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Traian Hristea noted that the EU welcomes this program and is willing to support it till the end. Among other things Traian Hristea underscored: "The democracy is a safeguard of a strong state and this program is aimed to the development of democracy in the countries of South Caucasus. The EU encourages such events greatly."

During four day parliamentary simulation Pupils elected by their peers at schools will debate on different political issues rand vote a joint declaration that will be presented in Brussels in March 2013.
