Hot weather cannot cause an earthquake: Seismologist considers the concerns of the population inappropriate

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 4, ARMENPRESS: Hot weather conditions cannot serve a basis for arising earthquake, reportedly the centers of the earthquakes are at several dozen kilometers depth. Hrachya Petrosyan told in the briefing with Armenpress, the concerns of the population are groundless.

It is true, there were the same weather conditions in 1988, yet the occurred disaster had no connection with the prevailing weather seismologist underscored. In the words of the specialist the population is more or less informed about the earthquakes and in cases of need may protect themselves. Reportedly the awareness of the population regarding to the Provinces vary. Surely Spitak town residents are more informed due to the bitter experience they have survived. The population of the rest provinces get information about the earthquake dangers by means of mass media and schools,and therefore the level of their knowledge pertain to the issue is unequal.

Petrosyan notedin case danger may not be prevented, the consequences can be prevented."Seismic risk cannot be prevented, but seismic disaster should be minimized, which we failed in 1988'' seismologist wrapped up.
