YEREVAN, JUNE 15, ARMENPRESS: The Euro 2012 Group D clash between Ukraine and France has been suspended due to a lightning storm in Donetsk.
The game was only four minutes old when referee Bjorn Kuipers withdraw the players from the pitch after the rain lashed down on the park from the moment that the players arrived on the Donbass Arena surface, Armenpress reports citing “goal.com”.
Goal.com’s James Goldman, in Donetsk, said of the scene: “A magnificent stadium this might be, but we have just spotted one major design flaw.
“As the players came out onto the pitch they were met with an enormous clap of thunder and then the heavens opened.
“The rain has fallen at an incredible rate and there is already surface water on this pitch, and is sweeping into the press box where we have taken cover under plastic sheets.”
If the game cannot be restarted at any point today, then it will be rescheduled for Saturday.
