YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 13, ARMENPRESS: National Assembly Speaker Samvel Nikoyan received James Appathurai, NATO Secretary General's Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia.
Samvel Nikoyan first welcomed James Appathurai on the occasion of his second visit to Armenia, and then referred to Armenia-NATO cooperation, which is developing positively. He highlighted the works carried out within the framework of Armenia-NATO 2012-2013 Individual Partnership Action Plan, attached importance to the cooperation of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly and National Assembly of Armenia and participation of Armenian Armed Forces in International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan.
"Being a small country, Armenia plays huge role in international peacekeeping missions. I have been to Afghanistan myself and want to convey my gratitude for the high-class service of the Armenian armed forces," said James Appathurai.
He pointed out National Assembly's role in the fields of control and public competence, as well as the cooperation within the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.
Other issues of mutual interest were discussed as well. Bilateral importance was attached to further expansion and strengthening of the cooperation.
