Within the framework of Armenia’s Independence Day celebrations, a series of events will be held in Gyumri for the first time, bringing together healthy lifestyle, sports, national culture, contemporary music and urban entertainment.
The Fund for Armenian Relief (FAR) Armenia office said the program will kick off with the “Tricolor” Gyumri Run on September 20 at 12:00 p.m. from Vardanants Square in Gyumri.
According to the organizers, the event is not merely a running competition but a major city celebration.
Participants will be able to choose from 1, 2, 5 or 10 km routes. Professional runners as well as beginners, families and healthy-lifestyle enthusiasts will take part in the run.
The route will pass through the streets of Gyumri’s historic center.
The organizers estimate that this will be the largest running event ever held in Gyumri.
“The goal of the ‘Tricolor’ Gyumri Run is to promote the development of mass sports and a healthy lifestyle, value and promote the national holidays and symbols of the Republic of Armenia, as well as develop regional tourism by introducing participants to Gyumri’s historical and cultural heritage. Cultural and entertainment programs are also planned as part of the event. Gyumri’s museums, galleries and entertainment venues have joined the initiative, giving event participants an opportunity to learn about the city’s cultural life,” organizers said.
The event will also have a social and charitable component. With the support of FAR's “Ayo!” platform, a portion of the funds raised will go toward providing free physical therapy for children with disabilities in Gyumri.
According to the organizers, the initiative aims to turn the sporting event into a city celebration while also promoting Gyumri’s cultural heritage, developing tourism and implementing social programs.
