The official presentation of the regional results of the PISA 2025 international assessment for Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia has begun in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia.
The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of the Republic of Armenia said in a press release that representatives from 31 of the 91 countries and economies participating in the PISA 2025 program are attending the conference titled “Learning Reimagined.” Armenia is represented at the conference by Tamara Sargsyan, Head of the General Education Department of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport.
Decline in educational performance in OECD countries
The PISA 2025 data indicate a global decline in educational performance, particularly noticeable in reading and mathematics. In OECD countries, average scores have declined by more than 20 points over the past decade, a difference estimated to be equivalent to a loss of around one school year of learning.
The research findings highlight a number of factors affecting student performance, ranging from teacher and parental support to the use of digital technologies and artificial intelligence.
Teacher support: According to the PISA 2025 results, Armenia ranks among the leading countries in terms of teacher support provided to students.
The strength of parental support: The study also emphasizes the importance of parental involvement in a child’s education. According to the data, parents taking an interest in their child’s school life, including talking about their school day and what they have learned, is associated with up to 26 points higher performance in science.
Moderation in the use of digital devices: Particular attention is also paid to the use of digital technologies. Moderate use of digital devices for educational purposes—1–3 hours per day—is associated with higher educational outcomes, while excessive use for entertainment purposes may negatively affect student performance.
Artificial intelligence (AI): The use of artificial intelligence in education was also examined as part of PISA 2025. The results show that students who use AI tools as a learning aid to study information, conduct research, and deepen their knowledge achieve higher results. At the same time, using AI to obtain ready-made answers or texts is associated with lower performance.
“Armenia: 40,300 Seeds”
During the conference, the Armenian delegation was also presented with a symbolic souvenir bearing the inscription “ARMENIA 40,300 SEEDS.”
PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment) is an international assessment conducted by the OECD that evaluates the knowledge acquired by 15-year-old students in reading, mathematics and science, as well as their ability to apply that knowledge in practical situations. In Armenia, the assessment was conducted in March-May 2025, with approximately 7,000 students from 295 schools participating.
The Bratislava meeting was one of the regional events dedicated to presenting the PISA 2025 results. Similar meetings will also be held in London and Buenos Aires, while presentations of the results will continue in other educational centers around the world until mid-November.
