U.S. President Donald Trump has said Washington reached a more favourable agreement with Canada, allowing the new Gordie Howe International Bridge linking Detroit and Windsor to open on July 27 as originally scheduled.

Trump made the announcement on his Truth Social platform.

“I was able to negotiate a much better deal for America, and as a result, the beautiful new Gordie Howe International Bridge connecting Detroit and Windsor, Ontario, will open on July 27, on schedule,” Trump wrote.

According to Trump, the original agreement was unacceptable to him, while the new arrangement is excellent and fair.

Trump also thanked the Canadian government, adding: “May both sides enjoy many years of success with this wonderful new project.”
