Armenian Army Day celebrated in UK with inaugural reception

On 16 February, a reception was held at the Royal Air Force Club in London to mark 34th Armenian Army Day and the official opening of the Defence Section at the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia to the United Kingdom. The event also marked the formal appointment of Defence Attaché, Colonel Karen Muradyan, the Armenian Embassy reported.

In his remarks, Armenian Ambassador to the UK Varuzhan Nersesyan described the occasion as historic, noting that it was the inaugural Armenian Army Day Reception hosted in the United Kingdom. He highlighted the strong momentum in Armenia–UK relations, recalling the agreement to elevate bilateral ties to a strategic partnership and the mutual opening of Defence Sections at both Embassies in Yerevan and London as clear evidence of deepening cooperation. The Ambassador also congratulated Colonel Muradyan on his appointment and wished him success in his new role.

Colonel Muradyan, in his address, spoke about the ongoing transformation process within the Armenian Armed Forces and reaffirmed Armenia’s commitment to continued modernisation and diversification of Weapon Systems, enhanced cooperation with the United Kingdom and other international partners. He noted that these efforts are aimed at ensuring the Armed Forces are better prepared to address evolving security challenges. He underlined that the Armenian Army remains a key guarantor of the country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and peace.

The reception brought together representatives of the UK Ministry of Defence, Defence Attachés of the diplomatic corps, and members of the Armenian community.
