Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said on Wednesday that the situation around Armenia and the security environment have never been more stable.
Speaking at the AIISA Security Forum titled Armenia and Peace: At the Intersection of Risks and Opportunities, Pashinyan credited his administration’s decisions made in September-October 2022 for the current stable situation.
“The situation around Armenia and the security environment have never been more stable. As of 8:00 a.m. on January 14, 2026, Armenia has been in a more stable and less threatening environment than ever before. Of course, this is due to all the processes that have taken place, as well as the joint statement by Armenia and the United States in Washington the day before regarding the implementation framework of the TRIPP project. All of this completely changes the environment,” the Prime Minister said.
He also emphasized that the starting point of all these events was the European Political Community Summit in Prague on October 6, 2022, during which a quadrilateral statement was adopted (Armenia, France, EU, Azerbaijan), in which Armenia and Azerbaijan recognized the principle of respecting each other’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
According to Prime Minister Pashinyan, it was precisely from this event that the process was set on a trajectory that inevitably led to the current situation.
“Of course, different scenarios could have happened; in 2023, the events in Karabakh might not have occurred either, but that is another matter, the reasons for which I have already discussed. However, I want to also emphasize the role of French President Emmanuel Macron and the President of the European Council, because after that, a very important event took place: the EU deployed a short-term monitoring mission in Armenia, which later became a long-term mission,” Prime Minister Pashinyan emphasized.
According to him, this event opened up a certain space for Armenia for self-reflection and consideration. The Prime Minister noted that as of September 2022, Armenia’s takeaway was that it understood it could not expect solutions to its problems from anyone else.
“Our realization was that we ourselves must understand our problems and make decisions about what we do and the path we take. In that case, the assistance and support of the international community will be much more concrete and substantive. We understood that it was impossible to emerge from this impasse without recognizing each other’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, and inviolability of borders. Had we not made these decisions, I won’t even try to describe what the situation in our region would have been as of today,” emphasized Nikol Pashinyan, adding that today the whole world is turbulent, while Armenia and the region are gradually—at least on the Armenia-Azerbaijan dimension—being transformed into a stable and secure environment, which is a very significant achievement.
