Opposition Strong Armenia says it has questions for CSTO

Narek Karapetyan, head of the opposition Strong Armenia faction in Parliament, has stated that his political force has a number of questions regarding the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) that, in his words, need to be clarified.

Armenia has frozen its participation in the CSTO’s activities since February 2024. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said the CSTO had failed to fulfill its security commitments to Armenia.

Karapetyan said in Parliament that these questions mainly concern the Azerbaijani military operations against Armenia in 2022, particularly the events that took place in the Jermuk and Vardenis directions.

“Our position regarding the CSTO is as follows: We have questions regarding the CSTO that need to be clarified. These questions mainly concern Jermuk and Vardenis, and we have stated this many times,” Karapetyan said.

At the same time, the head of the Strong Armenia faction noted that if the authorities see a real alternative to the CSTO, they should present it to the public.
