More grain supplies via Azerbaijan and Georgia en route to Armenia

A train carrying grain from Russia’s Volgograd Oblast is en route to Armenia. The train departed from Gmelinka station and will pass through Azerbaijani territory.

Russian media, citing the Volgograd Railway management, reported that this shipment marks the first time the rail route has been operating since the 1990s.

According to the report, seven wagons are currently en route, while 30 more—loaded with 2,000 tons of grain—will be sent by the end of 2025.

Earlier in November, 1,000 tons of Russian grain were shipped to Armenia by rail through Azerbaijan and Georgia, marking the first transit shipment in decades between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Another 1,000 tons of grain was shipped along the same route from Kazakhstan.

Russia then announced that it will send another 132 wagons of grain via rail to Armenia through Azerbaijani and Georgian territories by the end of January 2026. Armenia and Azerbaijan lifted all restrictions on the transit shipment of goods to each other following the U.S.-brokered peace summit on August 8.
