Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni spoke by phone on Sunday with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy ahead of his planned visits to London, Brussels and Rome for talks on the peace process, Reuters reported citing a statement from her office.

Meloni reaffirmed Italy's solidarity after what she called a fresh wave of "indiscriminate" Russian strikes on civilian targets and announced the dispatch of emergency supplies to support Ukraine's energy infrastructure and population, according to the report.

Generators provided by Italian companies will be shipped in the coming weeks, the statement said.

The prime minister also reiterated support for ongoing negotiations and U.S.-led efforts to secure a "just and lasting peace."

She welcomed Kyiv's willingness to engage in good faith and urged Moscow to show similar openness, according to the readout.

Zelenskiy expressed gratitude to PM Meloni in a post on X.

“I am grateful for close attention to the diplomatic efforts and for supporting our energy infrastructure with equipment that Italy will deliver in the coming days. We discussed the outcomes of our engagement with the American side, as well as the existing prospects and challenges. There is still work to be done together to ensure that Russia genuinely commits to ending the war. Italy clearly supports the need for real security and for preventing any renewed outbreaks of war. We are preparing joint efforts in Europe to make diplomacy work. Thank you,” the Ukrainian leader said.
