Georgian President stresses role of initialed Armenia–Azerbaijan peace agreement for regional stability

The U.S.- brokered peace agreement initialed between Armenia and Azerbaijan in Washington on August 8 is a significant step toward lasting peace and stability in the South Caucasus, President of Georgia Mikheil Kavelashvili said during a joint press conference with Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan in Tbilisi.
He noted that in a rapidly changing world order, maintaining peace and stability in the South Caucasus is becoming increasingly important.
“I would like to emphasize that the initialed peace agreement signed by Armenia and Azerbaijan in Washington on August 8 is a significant step toward lasting peace and a stable environment, which I naturally welcome. This historic event is of great importance for the future of the South Caucasus,” the Georgian President said.
He added that Tbilisi stands ready to contribute to strengthening peace and stability in the region.
Armenia and Azerbaijan initialed the U.S.-brokered peace agreement in Washington on August 8.
