The village of Areni in southeastern Armenia is gearing up for its eponymous wine festival, which traditionally draws thousands of visitors and showcases the rich winemaking culture.
Dozens of winemakers, restaurants, musicians, and artisans will present their work at the Areni Wine Festival 2025, set to take place on October 4.
The Tourism Committee of Armenia is sponsoring the event to promote tourism.
At a press conference, the committee’s chairperson, Lusine Gevorgyan, said the Areni Wine Festival has become one of the most popular festivals in the country over the years.
Festival founding director Nune Manukyan noted that the event has contributed significantly to the village’s development. “The village has changed beyond recognition over the years. With active development projects, new hotels and guesthouses are opening. The residents are very excited and looking forward to the festival. There will be no shortage of wine — including homemade,” Manukyan said.
The festival will open at 12:00 p.m. with a traditional grape-treading ceremony. A concert program will follow.
Officials credit such festivals with boosting tourism and supporting community development.
