Pashinyan appears to accuse Ter-Petrosyan of unlawful military deployment in early nineties

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has once again addressed former President Levon Ter-Petrosyan, urging him to accept his offer for a public debate.

In another Facebook post on Tuesday, Pashinyan appeared to suggest that Ter-Petrosyan violated the law by sending troops beyond the borders of the Republic of Armenia during his presidency in the early nineties amid the First Nagorno-Karabakh War.

“Who, and under what legal authority, allowed [Levon Ter-Petrosyan] to deploy 18-year-old soldiers of the Republic of Armenia beyond the internationally recognized territory of the Republic of Armenia after the adoption and ratification of the Alma-Ata Declaration?” Pashinyan asked. “Let him answer this question and ultimately explain whether he will participate in the debate or not.”

First President Levon Ter-Petrosyan, Second President Robert Kocharyan, and Third President Serzh Sargsyan have accused Pashinyan of provoking the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war and mishandling the response. Pashinyan has denied these accusations and offered to hold public debates with them, but they have rejected the offer. He also stated that the three former presidents are responsible for dragging Armenia into war during their respective tenures.
