Former judicial watchdog chief found guilty of obstruction of justice

Ruben Vardazaryan, the former Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council, has been found guilty of obstruction of justice and sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison.

Judge Vahe Dolmazyan of the Anti-Corruption Court delivered the verdict on August 8.

Vardazaryan is also banned from holding public office for 2 years.

According to the verdict, Vardazaryan used the powers of his office in 2019 to obstruct Judge Andranik Simonyan of the Lori Court of General Jurisdiction from administering justice.
