Georgian Prime Minister hopes Yerevan and Baku would sign peace agreement in near future

The Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, Arpine Sargsyan,who is in Tbilisi on a two-day working visit, held a meeting.

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has positively assessed the finalization of negotiations on the signing of a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan and expressed hope that the document will be signed in the near future.

According to a readout issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the meeting emphasized the exceptional opportunity for achieving peace in the South Caucasus. Irakli Kobakhidze reaffirmed the Georgian government's readiness to continue contributing to dialogue and to ensuring peace and stability in the region.

The parties also stressed the importance of friendly and good-neighborly relations between Armenia and Georgia, as well as the close and effective cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of the two neighboring countries.

Armenia and Azerbaijan announced on March 13 that they had reached an agreement on the text of the peace treaty. Following the announcement, Armenia proposed initiating consultations with Azerbaijan to determine the date and venue for signing the agreement.

Numerous countries have welcomed the agreement and expressed hope that it would be signed as soon as possible.

However, Azerbaijan has introduced new preconditions.
