No unusual influx from Iran amid conflict with Israel, says Syunik governor

There’s been no unusual influx through Syunik province into Armenia amid the ongoing Iranian-Israeli conflict, Governor of Syunik province Robert Ghukasyan has said.

Armenia’s land border with Iran is in the southern Syunik province.

There’s always been “active flow” of people from neighboring Iran due to the transit roads, the presence of the Iranian consulate and economic, cultural ties, he said. These days no unusual activity has been observed, he said, adding that the flow of people from Iran is as usual.

Furthermore, the Governor said hotel businesses in the province have a capacity to accommodate up to 3300 people, and around 50-60% is now unavailable due to the tourism season.

“Perhaps there’s a little increase in the number of arrivals because Iran has cancelled a number of international flights and those who were supposed to travel by air have been traveling by land instead,” he said.

The situation in the province is as usual, he reiterated.

Earlier the foreign ministry said that India evacuated 110 of its nationals from Iran through the territory of Armenia.

Afterwards Reuters reported that China has advised nationals in Iran to consider Armenia as evacuation route amid the ongoing Iranian-Israeli airstrikes.
