A decision will have to be made in the future – Armenian PM on EEU-EU dilemma

Armenia cannot be a member of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) and the EU at the same time, and a decision will have to be made in the future, PM Nikol Pashinyan has said.

Pashinyan, participating at a panel discussion in the GLOBSEC 2025 forum in Czechia, was asked how Armenia would solve the obstacle to EU membership: its membership to the EEU.

“We understand that we can’t be member of EEU and EU at the same time and obviously at a point in the future we will need to make a decision. But it’s very important that the decision will be made by the citizens of Armenia, of course with the leadership of the government and parliament of Armenia,” Pashinyan said.

“At least to the point that there’s no strict need to make that decision we will continue our democratic reforms to be as compliant to the standards of EU as it’s possible. And when that moment will come, we will put that question on the table, into political agenda of Armenia and together with our citizens we will make decision,” he added.

Earlier this year the Armenian parliament adopted the bill on EU integration.
