Prime Minister inspects completed renovation work on Kyiv Bridge carriageway

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan inspected the renovation work on the carriageway of Kyiv Bridge, which was completed two weeks ahead of schedule, on August 14 instead of the planned August 29.

The Prime Minister’s Office said officials responsible for the project stressed that the primary aim of all the work carried out was to improve traffic safety and provide safer and more comfortable conditions for the public.

In particular, the bridge’s expansion joints were restored, drainage and waterproofing systems were restored and installed, new galvanised safety barriers were installed, electrical cables were removed from lighting poles and relocated to inspection chambers beneath the pavement, a new asphalt-concrete surface layer was laid, pavements on both sides were resurfaced, and road markings were applied.

A special polymer-concrete material was used in the expansion joint areas for the first time in Armenia. It is designed to minimise impacts and vibrations caused by passing vehicles, ensure the safe operation of the bridge and make travel more comfortable.

Work to reinforce and restore damaged sections of the bridge’s arch span and supports, as well as other planned works, will continue until the end of the year without disrupting traffic.

The Prime Minister emphasised the importance of bridge construction and renovation projects in Armenia and said the government plans to build or renovate around 40 bridges between 2026 and 2031.

Kyiv Bridge was last renovated in July and August 1995 to address drainage problems. The work was carried out jointly by the Yerevan municipal authorities and the Ministry of Transport and Construction. The renovation was carried out with a 20-year guarantee.
